How to get to the
Isle of Wight

Frequent services across the Solent makes travelling to the Isle of Wight so easy. You have a choice of ferry operators for car or passenger only crossings.

Isle of Wight car ferries operate from Southampton to East Cowes (Red Funnel), Lymington to Yarmouth (Wightlink) and Portsmouth to Fishbourne (Wightlink).


If travelling by train or coach, visitors may use any of the car ferries and also the Southampton to Cowes Hi-Speed Jet Service (Red Funnel), Southsea to Ryde Hovercraft (Hovertravel) and the Portsmouth to Ryde Passenger Catamaran (Wightlink).

Getting to the Isle of Wight by Rail :

Southampton and Portsmouth ferry terminals are both linked to London by fast rail services, the journey time taking approximately one and a half hours. The London terminus is Waterloo Station. Tickets can be purchased straight through to some Island destinations (Shanklin, then bus ride to Ventnor- route 3), to include the ferry crossing.

Getting to the Isle of Wight by Coach :

The National Express network connects via interchanges at London, Birmingham and Bristol to the Wightlink ferry terminal at Portsmouth Harbour and at London and Southampton interchanges for Lymington.
